Hunt is available at Houndmaster level three, and it gives you one of the easiest ways to make Mutt useful early.
For hares, talk to him and set him to hunt game. Walk through an area where there are rabbits and let him go after them. He can kill a hare and bring the carcass back, which saves you trying to keep track of a tiny animal disappearing through the grass.
You can also aim at an animal and use the Hunt prompt to send him after that particular target. Fetch is available for rabbit carcasses, including a rabbit you've already killed. It isn't a general command for carrying every animal or piece of loot back to you.
The perk mentions deer and boar too, but I wouldn't expect every hunt to work like a rabbit hunt. Larger animals can take longer, outrun him or wear him out. Wounding a boar first gives him a more manageable job than expecting him to handle a healthy one on his own.
Hunting with him develops Houndmaster and gives you opportunities to improve Hunting as well. Keep some decent meat for him and praise him afterward. Also remember that having a dog catch the animal doesn't exempt Henry from the game's poaching rules. Look at the meat's status before treating everything you bring back as legally obtained goods.
