Watch for the tournament announcement, then go to the Herald in Rattay's upper-castle courtyard on the tournament day. Enroll before 3 p.m. The usual entry fee is 60 groschen, and the event repeats weekly, so missing one doesn't mean you've permanently lost your chance.
You don't need to buy an expensive suit of armor just to enter. The tournament supplies equipment. What does matter is Henry's ability to use it. Spend time training with Captain Bernard, particularly on defense and master strikes, before expecting to get through the stronger opponents.
If you've finished Next to Godliness, speak to Hans about Capon's Champion before enrolling. That can connect the tournament to his quest and get your entry covered. Otherwise, you can pay the Herald yourself. You don't need to wait for Hans to participate.
