Once the businesses exist, start bringing in people who can actually improve them. This is where helping characters elsewhere in the game can come back around, but recruitment depends on their situation and your earlier decisions. A name on a guide does not mean that person is automatically available in every save. Kunesh in Rattay and Raspberry at the woodcutters' camp between Ledetchko and the Inn in the Glade are useful people to ask about working with your woodcutters. Check Kornelius for the trader's job after Aquarius. Returning Adam's family cross in Besmirched helps with recruiting him for the tavern; Mirka is another potential recruit, tied to the outcome involving Timmy. Match your smith to your chosen specialization. Fink is an option for the swordsmith, while Zach or Master Ota connect to the armourer route and the outcome of Rattled. Do not build one workshop and assume every skilled smith can fill the same position. Also return for judgments. Those disputes can change reputation, population, or income, and a choice that sounds profitable can have another cost attached. Read both sides before selecting the option with the strongest wording. Matthew and Fritz are a good example of why recruiting somebody is not automatically a financial improvement. If their quest outcomes allow you to invite them, they initially cost the village money. Their later brawl judgment gives you a chance to make them straighten up. Familiar faces still need managing once they arrive.
