The murder investigation needs its own explanation because having the necklace doesn’t solve it, and finding somebody’s stolen dice doesn’t necessarily make the journal recognize that you’ve solved anything either. Mladota is the strongest suspect. He has Alphonse’s distinctive dice and nobleman’s boots. But I wouldn’t describe this as a detective story with a final scene proving every detail of the murder. The clues point toward him, and the game lets you take an accusation back to Anselm. If you want that optional report, investigate before returning the necklace to Hans. In particular, the documented Mladota dialogue trigger involves seeing him use the dice. Simply stealing them can leave you without that conversation option. So recovering the necklace without a dice game and fully following the investigation are two different goals. Don’t keep searching his inventory expecting a second, obvious murder-evidence item to appear. After that, return to Hans. He gives you a letter to deliver with the necklace. Put both in Karolina’s trunk as instructed, then check back with him the next morning. Now he wants Musk of Infinite Allure. The Charlatan can be in Sasau or Ledetchko depending on his earlier quest progress. Buying the recipe is a shortcut. Helping with his Ledetchko scheme opens the much larger No Rest for the Wicked quest.
