Coming back to the original five in X-Factor should be an opportunity for Warren to build something with people he knows. The idea is to reach mutants who need help by posing as mutant hunters, then get those people somewhere safe. You can understand what they are trying to accomplish and still see how dangerous that public image is. They are offering a service to frightened people while pretending to agree with the fear that made those people call in the first place. That gives the team access to mutants they might otherwise never find. It also means they are helping circulate the idea that mutants are a problem somebody should be hired to remove. Warren's resources help make the operation possible. Cameron Hodge's involvement makes trust inside that operation especially important, and looking at the arrangement with what happens afterward in mind is difficult. The people running the rescue effort and the person shaping its public face are not working toward the same goal. Warren has friendships, responsibilities and a whole identity built around the person he has been. All of that is already in place when his life gets torn apart.
