Being one of the original X-Men does not mean Warren spends his entire life content to stay in the same place. He has a history outside Xavier's school, and that helps him feel like someone who can make his own decisions instead of always being available whenever the original team needs a fifth member. The Champions are one example. Warren and Bobby end up on a team with Black Widow, Hercules and Ghost Rider. Just looking at that lineup tells you how different an experience it would be from being one of Xavier's students. He is dealing with people whose backgrounds and ways of approaching trouble are very different from his own. His money also has a practical use there. Teams need somewhere to work and resources to operate. Warren can contribute to that without it automatically making him the best person to lead everybody in a fight. Those are separate responsibilities, and having access to one does not guarantee you are suited to the other. I think that is worth keeping in mind whenever his wealth comes up. It can make a situation easier, and it gives him options. It does not mean he understands everyone around him or always knows which option to choose. There is still plenty of room for him to get things wrong.
