The Queen of Clubs rounds out Wonderland's four competing royal courts, and her connection to the Queen of Diamonds is an important part of where she fits. Clubs and Diamonds are lovers. They have their own titles and places in the royal struggle, but there is a relationship between them that goes beyond two rulers deciding it would be convenient to cooperate. Adina's history gives the Diamonds side a particularly direct connection to the Liddle family. Clubs enters that picture as someone personally connected to her as well as another Queen with a claim of her own. In Clash of Queens, Clubs is part of the same fight over the Ebony Blade as Hearts, Spades and Diamonds. Each court has forces behind it, and the weapon gives them something worth fighting over. Then Trickster gets involved and starts exploiting the rivalries between them. Her connection to Adina gives that situation a more personal side. Adina has already been through her own ordeal before becoming the Queen of Diamonds. Clubs is connected to her as a partner as well as another ruler, so their relationship matters even when the larger story is focused on armies and the struggle for power. That's the part of the Queen of Clubs that has the clearest place in this stretch of Wonderland: her position among the competing rulers and the relationship she has with Adina while that conflict is happening around them.
