SCP-108 starts with a woman who has a Nazi aircraft factory accessible through her nostrils. That's an actual sentence I have to write to explain this one.
She's 51, and the place connected to her nose is roughly two by four kilometers across. Researchers find unfinished Me 262 aircraft, three completed planes and human remains. Evidence around the exit suggests a fight, and some bodies show signs of cannibalism. They haven't finished exploring it.
The portal has a three-way arrangement. Something entering from outside goes into the factory. Something leaving the factory goes into her nasal cavity. Something leaving her nasal cavity comes back outside.
So, imagine trying to draw that for the next doctor taking over your case. “Here's your patient, here's the factory, and here's why normal anatomy isn't going to help.”
She develops recurring pneumonia after the anomaly appears while she's practicing a stage trick. The Foundation installs filters in pieces and assembles them inside. Its recovery operation also kills the doctors and other witnesses. Later, somebody proposes using the bunker to store emergency data. Research into moving the entrance continues.
The storage proposal is such a strange turn. At that point we're talking about someone's nose as a potential backup location. I can picture somebody making a perfectly serious presentation about storage capacity while she sits there wondering whether they could please finish working on the part that involves getting a factory disconnected from her face.
And I wouldn't want to skip over the bodies to concentrate entirely on the portal. There's an entire disaster waiting to be reconstructed in that place. Who was trying to get out? What did they understand about the exit? You could build a separate story around whatever happened before anyone examined this woman.
The premise sounds like a joke. Actually having to live with it sounds exhausting. Even the most ordinary conversation with a doctor would turn into a discussion nobody else in the waiting room could possibly relate to.
