8/9 The Guardian return is a second attack on Heather

8/9 The Guardian return is a second attack on Heather The return in #25 begins by offering Alpha Flight something they desperately want: Mac is alive. The explanation is elaborate. The explosion sent him across space and time; the Quwrlln saved him; repairing him left his body integrated with his suit. That last detail makes the machinery seem like evidence of an extraordinary survival instead of a reason to suspect an impersonator. Heather is being asked to accept the return of her husband. The rest of Alpha Flight are being offered their old leader. Courtney uses both relationships to get back inside the group. In #26, the West Edmonton Mall crisis draws them into another trap. Puck encounters Diamond Lil, Talisman encounters Flashback, and Northstar faces Wild Child. The disguised Guardian helps turn those encounters against the Alphans. The reveal to Heather is particularly vicious. Courtney removes the face that has allowed her to believe Mac came home. The person presenting this miracle is part of the operation that took him from her in the first place. The false return makes their grief available for Courtney to exploit, and Heather has to survive the loss all over again. https://t.co/WnSARaqaKx https://t.co/dtRZnTFUTs
