3/9 Delphine Courtney does the recruiting
Courtney is doing far more than arranging appointments for Jaxon. She finds the recruits, brings them together and helps turn their resentment into something useful to him.
The meeting in #11 is already going badly before anybody fights Alpha Flight. Smart Alec is obnoxious, Diamond Lil snaps back, Flashback insults Wild Child, and Kyle threatens to tear his throat out. Courtney's built-in influencer is amplifying their jealousies and fears. The group is being pushed toward the emotional state the operation needs.
That matters when judging the roster. There are real grievances and unpleasant behaviour in the room, but there is also deliberate interference. Treating every outburst as a completely unaltered expression of someone's personality leaves Courtney's work out of the story.
Heather discovers the other part of the deception when she tears away Courtney's face and exposes the machinery underneath. The polished assistant has been a robot all along.
Courtney survives Jaxon's death and carries the mission into the next encounter. Killing Mac has not satisfied the programme, because Alpha Flight itself is still there. Courtney has another objective to complete and enough knowledge of the survivors to make the next approach horribly personal.
