2/9 Jerry Jaxon and the stolen Box Jaxon has his own grievance against Mac, reaching back to their working relationship at Am-Can. He turns that private grudge into an operation big enough to threaten the whole team, using Roxxon's resources and Courtney's recruiting work. Box needs separating into the machine and the person controlling it. Roger Bochs goes along with Courtney because he wants to investigate the plot. He tries to get a warning through. He hasn't decided to murder his old friend. By the time Box fights Guardian in #12, Jaxon has taken over the controls and Roger is a prisoner. Mac initially thinks Roger has betrayed him, which gives Jaxon another advantage before he reveals himself. The machine looks familiar; the intentions behind it have changed. Jaxon damages Guardian's suit during their fight. Mac defeats Box by feeding power into it, and the feedback kills Jaxon through the control link. Winning that fight still leaves Mac desperately trying to disconnect his damaged power pack before it explodes. Heather reaches him in those final seconds. The explosion is the devastating finish to the trap Jaxon built. Roger's invention has been used against someone he wanted to protect, and Heather has been brought into the operation as leverage against her husband.
