6. Madison Jeffries belongs here, not in the original Box slot Madison is easy to put in the wrong place if you work backward from his later career. At this stage he is the Gamma member with an extraordinary ability to reshape machinery and materials. Roger Bochs is Beta's Box. Alpha Flight #16 gives Madison's power a particularly good demonstration. Roger brings him in to discuss rebuilding the robot. When Roger throws a box of parts toward him, Madison stops them in the air and reshapes them into a mechanical arm. Metal, plastic and glass are materials he can work with directly. Roger immediately sees the possibilities of combining that ability with his own engineering knowledge. The two men have different skills that can achieve more together. Madison also breaks up the idea that every remaining trainee becomes an Omega recruit. In #28, he says Courtney never even approached him. His powers suggest an obvious reason: someone who understands and reshapes machinery would be a dangerous recruit for an android hiding her nature. When he confronts Omega in #28, he explains that Hudson treated him fairly. That is a very different memory from the grievance Courtney is encouraging in the others. Courtney's recruitment leaves out the man who eventually destroys her. The ability that makes him useful to Roger is also the one that takes her operation apart.
