3. Marrina gets there with the water they need Marrina is the other Beta member already selected to move up when the program closes. Her path has taken her through Gamma first, so she is also a clear example of the training system actually producing a graduate. Her introduction in Alpha Flight #1 starts in Newfoundland, where she receives Heather's signal and heads into the sea. While Puck struggles to find transportation, Marrina can cover an enormous distance under her own power. She arrives at the Tundra fight on a waterspout. That is exactly what Shaman needs. His attempt to erode the creature has run short of water, and Marrina's arrival supplies enough for him to finish the job. For somebody just stepping up from the second team, that is a fairly decisive contribution. She brings something the established lineup needs rather than standing at the edge waiting for permission to help. The next issues make her origins and the gaps in everyone's understanding of her much more troubling. But that shouldn't swallow her first appearance. Before those revelations, she answers a call for help and contributes to saving the country. Her Beta history leads directly into that moment. The program has recognized her ability, and the first emergency gives her a chance to use it.
