1. The four people just below Alpha
The original Beta Flight is a very small group with a surprisingly large place in Alpha Flight's early history: Puck, Marrina, Box and Flashback.
This is the Beta introduced in John Byrne's Alpha Flight #1 in 1983. Department H's arrangement has three levels. Gamma is the initial training tier, Beta is the next stage, and Alpha is the active team. Being in Beta means someone has progressed through the program, or arrived with enough experience to begin there, but has not yet taken a regular place in Alpha.
That gives these four quite different reasons to be together. Puck brings years of experience. Marrina is young and still discovering what she can do. Roger Bochs has built a robot. Flashback can bring extra versions of himself into a fight.
We meet the idea of their team as the government is shutting the whole program down. There isn't a separate run of original Beta Flight missions to summarize. Their history comes through the roster, what the characters say about training, and where they go afterward.
The later teams using the Beta name have their own stories. This one begins with those four people and a promotion system that is about to lose its funding.
