9. Winning the fight doesn't put the team back together
The mall battle does serious damage beyond the physical fight. In #27, Delphine turns Shaman's pouch inside out. Elizabeth enters the resulting void to rescue her teammates, trusting Michael to get her back out.
He promises to protect her. When Delphine puts Snowbird in danger as well, he tries to save both and loses the chance to retrieve Elizabeth. His daughter's earlier experience of a broken promise is suddenly present all over again.
The Beyonder rescues her in the connected Secret Wars II #4 sequence, with the aftermath continuing in Alpha Flight #28. Elizabeth survives, but her relationship with her father is badly damaged. She sends the team away in anger.
Madison destroys Delphine and stops Omega Flight. Heather, meanwhile, has to prevent another confrontation with the Beyonder from escalating. She argues for thinking before attacking, even with everyone hurt and frightened.
That is a fitting point to stop this first leadership chapter. Heather has a real place at the center of Alpha Flight, but she cannot keep every relationship intact or give everyone back what they have lost. The team is still moving, with a new problem involving Walter's search for a body waiting at the end of #28.
