4. Elizabeth returns as somebody her father can't simply instruct
Elizabeth Twoyoungmen's arrival brings Shaman's family history into the present. She has grown up, and the anger over her mother's death has not conveniently vanished because Michael is now a superhero.
Their reunion leads into the Ranaq story in #18–19. Elizabeth can perceive and withstand things that make it clear she has an unusual place in this magical world. Snowbird recognizes the significance before Elizabeth has any real understanding of what is happening.
In #19 she reaches into Shaman's pouch and retrieves the coronet that makes her Talisman. That moment gives Alpha Flight a major new source of power, while leaving Elizabeth with very little experience of using it.
Issue #20 adds an unpleasant discovery: she cannot simply take the coronet off. The role comes with demands she did not understand when she accepted it.
That puts pressure on her relationship with Michael from a new direction. He has knowledge she needs, but their old problems are still there. Being her father and being the person who can explain the magic are two kinds of authority that do not automatically earn her trust.
