9. The first year brings the unfinished business back The book spends much of its first year separating the cast into individual stories. In #11–12, the consequences of the old Flight program bring them together again. Jerry Jaxon and Delphine Courtney assemble Omega Flight from people left behind when the program closed. Mac's new job offer is part of a trap, and Heather is used to draw him into it. His chance to rebuild his civilian life becomes a trap. Roger Bochs needs to be distinguished from the people willingly pursuing revenge. He tries to warn the Hudsons. The Box robot used against Guardian does not mean Roger has simply decided to murder his former colleague. Alpha Flight answers the emergency, but the reunion does not produce a clean rescue. Mac's damaged suit is counting down toward an explosion. Heather reaches him, he turns toward her, and the time runs out. Guardian dies at the end of #12. There is no need to jump ahead and soften that ending with later explanations. For the people standing there, he is gone. The ongoing has spent twelve issues giving these characters histories, homes and reasons to stay connected. Now the person who helped organize all of it has been taken away. Whether the others can keep the team alive belongs to the next chapter. https://t.co/ffbK5L5Muw https://t.co/fUqkbKZ3Wq
