6. Snowbird has obligations the others don't share
Snowbird's connection to Shaman reaches back to her birth. He helps bring her into the world, and her origin places her between a human father and the northern gods. The Great Beasts are part of that responsibility, so Tundra's appearance is personal to her in a way it cannot be for the whole team.
Her civilian identity creates another problem. As Anne McKenzie, she works with the RCMP, where disappearing without an explanation attracts attention. A supernatural emergency does not persuade a superior who has never been told what she actually is.
Issue #6 gives her the stage against Kolomaq. The fight takes place in a blizzard, with stretches of white panels leaving the reader to follow the voices and sounds. The storm interferes with reading the action itself.
Snowbird can change into animals, but those forms have limits and demands of their own. She can also be wounded. Her divinity doesn't turn the encounter into an effortless demonstration.
By the end, she has dealt with the immediate threat while remaining tied to a much older conflict. The rest of Alpha Flight can go back to their jobs. Snowbird's job follows her everywhere.
