Jack Power begins as Mass Master, with control over his density. He can spread himself out into a cloudlike form or compress himself down into a very small, dense body. Those are two very different-looking results from the same basic ability.
That makes his power more interesting than ordinary shrinking. Making a character smaller usually suggests that they are becoming easier to overlook and easier to hurt. Jack’s compact form can be dangerous precisely because all that mass is concentrated into less space. His cloud form works in the other direction, making his body behave in a way that an ordinary solid opponent cannot.
There is a lot of visual personality in that. One member of this family flies, another changes weight, another releases energy, and Jack can change what his own body occupies. Even before getting into their dialogue, the four siblings give an artist very different things to draw.
Jack also brings the less cooperative side of being somebody’s brother. Children do not spend every moment being patient, supportive and perfectly aware of one another’s feelings. Sometimes one of them makes a joke at the worst possible time. Sometimes an older sibling has to tell him to stop.
That familiar friction helps the group feel like a family rather than four unusually polite adults drawn at different heights. A disagreement does not have to be a dramatic betrayal to matter. It can just be an argument between children who are scared, tired or irritating one another.
Mass Master belongs in the original-power snapshot, and that is the version I’m covering here. Jack’s later names and power changes should not overwrite what makes this early version recognizable. He is the brother with a strange, adaptable physical ability and enough personality to make cooperation an ongoing negotiation.
