Vance Astrovik is using the name Marvel Boy here. His power is telekinesis, but the New Warriors' investigation gives him things to do that are not reducible to lifting the heaviest object in the room. Against Boom-Boom in New Warriors Annual #1, he redirects her explosives. It is a quick demonstration of why a power's usefulness depends on timing and awareness as much as strength. He has to understand what is coming toward him and respond before somebody else controls the outcome. Later, that attention turns toward the machinery the teams are investigating. Vance helps interpret what the equipment is for. He is doing the work between finding a suspicious location and actually understanding why it matters. That middle step can disappear in superhero stories when the next battle arrives quickly enough. It matters here because the people the heroes initially fight are not a complete explanation of the scheme. A useful investigator has to connect information, recognize the significance of an object and ask what purpose it serves. Vance also helps bring the New Warriors' situation to X-Factor in the closing chapter. That is another form of coordination: telling the arriving heroes what they need to know, rather than assuming that a new set of costumes already understands the problem. The combination makes him valuable in a way that is easy to miss if the roster is described only by attack types. Telekinesis lets him intervene physically. Careful observation lets him help the group decide where to intervene next. For this point in the team's history, Marvel Boy is both a combatant and somebody who can make the investigation intelligible. The Warriors need each of those contributions, especially once the story stops being a straightforward disagreement about whom to punch.
