Feral gets the group past an obstacle through precision in New Warriors Annual #1. Faced with the laser security beneath Xavier’s ruined school, she moves through the beams and switches the system off. The others can follow because she has reached a place they could not safely reach together. That scene makes an especially useful foundation for a character whose aggression can dominate an impression of her. Physical confidence does not have to mean indiscriminate force. An exact movement can be as assertive as an attack, and its value may depend on leaving the surroundings intact. It also changes the direction of dependence within the team. The others have to let her take the immediate risk, then trust the opening she creates. For a moment, cooperation consists of waiting for somebody else to do what they do best. That can be difficult in a group assembled around people who want to act. Competence does not resolve personality. One successful contribution cannot establish that somebody is kind, reliable in every circumstance or easy to live beside. It can establish something more limited and useful: there is work this person can do for the group, and the group benefits when it recognizes it. The same care should apply to judging a difficult teammate. Reducing someone to their worst behavior can obscure what they contribute; treating usefulness as an excuse for that behavior creates a different problem. A team needs enough honesty to hold both judgments without turning either into a permanent alibi. For Feral, the security sequence offers a concrete place to make that distinction. Her ability matters because it solves an actual problem for other people. Early X-Force is still working out how to combine people whose talents can fit together more comfortably than their temperaments.
