Sharon Friedlander’s contribution is easiest to miss if the Muir Island group is treated only as a collection of fighters. She is a nurse and a member of the community around Moira’s work. When the island is attacked, those qualifications matter in ways a combat tally cannot measure. She stays with the medical work inside the research center. Her clearest moment is challenging Moira over Banshee’s recovery: Sean has suffered a grave injury, and sending him back into action may undo the chance to save him. Sharon says what the emergency makes inconvenient to hear. That is a form of responsibility in its own right. A defender can become so valuable to everyone else that their immediate needs are pushed out of the conversation. Sharon insists that the person who might help win the battle is still someone being treated for a wound. Her history with the X-Men’s community helps explain why she belongs here. She has already worked among people whose injuries and needs are far outside an ordinary day’s nursing. Staying useful in that environment requires attention to the person in front of her, even when the larger situation threatens to overwhelm the room. The uniform does not turn her into an interchangeable member of a strike team. It offers protection while she does a different job. Keeping that distinction visible makes this lineup more interesting, because a refuge cannot function on combat ability alone. Sharon’s spotlight is therefore about care under pressure, including the willingness to disagree with someone in charge. She does not need to fire the decisive shot to have a meaningful part in the defense. The people taking those shots may survive only because somebody has kept treating them as patients, rather than as equipment that can immediately be sent out again.
