Storm comes out of Genosha with her adult body restored, but she still has to decide how to lead the people around her. The physical change is dramatic. The questions waiting at home are harder to settle with a single moment of recovery. At the beginning of X-Tinction Agenda, Forge’s examination suggests that her de-aged body may never grow normally. In Uncanny #271, the Genoshans subject her to their mutate process. By #272, she regains her adult self and restores Cyclops’s powers. The remaining crossover chapters establish how much that reversal can accomplish, and where its limits leave other people needing help. In #273, Cable challenges the older leaders directly. He wants them to strike their enemies first and stop behaving as though the conflict can be avoided. Storm objects to his assumptions, but she also questions her own decision to take the X-Men into hiding. She is willing to consider that her previous strategy has failed the people it was meant to protect. Her objection to moving everyone aboard X-Factor’s Ship is revealing. Safety and space are real advantages, yet a refuge that shuts ordinary humans out raises a problem for someone committed to living alongside them. Where the team lives is part of what it stands for. Gambit offers her a much simpler alternative: leave with him and return to their wandering life. She chooses to stay because these people are her family. His challenge helps turn that feeling into a decision she has to act on. Storm’s leadership here includes doubt, disagreement and an intended team vote. The others gather around her without demanding that she solve everything first. She has recovered herself; now she has to help them work out what they are rebuilding.
