Psylocke’s return after the Siege Perilous is one of the most disruptive changes in this whole scattered period. Uncanny X-Men #256–258 presents Betsy in a transformed appearance and under the control of the Hand, operating as Lady Mandarin. Her old teammates cannot simply find her and carry on as if nothing happened.
For this point in the story, the important facts are the ones those issues give us: manipulation, altered identity, dangerous conditioning and the struggle to recover herself. The later explanations belong to later stories. Bringing them backward would change what this return actually feels like as it unfolds.
In #257, Wolverine recognizes Betsy during their confrontation. She can attack through the mind as well as physically, and her psychic knife makes contact with a man whose own thoughts are already unstable. The collision between their damaged states becomes central to the next issue.
By the end of #258, she is again alongside Logan and Jubilee, but her uncertainty has not vanished. Betsy worries about whether she is fully free of what was done to her. Logan chooses to keep her with them. Jubilee has a much harder time accepting that decision.
That gives the following partnership an uncomfortable foundation. Wolverine remembers a friend. Jubilee remembers a threat. Betsy has to live with both perspectives while trying to regain confidence in herself.
Their encounter with the Harriers in #261 forces Betsy and Jubilee to work together instead of leaving their hostility as background dialogue. The scattered X-Men are rebuilding through these difficult personal connections. Psylocke’s contribution includes her combat and telepathic abilities, but first she has to find a place among people who have different reasons for wanting her near them, or wanting her gone.
