After the Outback team breaks apart, there is a stretch where following the X-Men means following people who cannot even find one another. The Australian base is gone as a safe home. Several familiar faces have disappeared through the Siege Perilous. Others are trying to survive without knowing who is still alive.
This thread covers the rebuilding strands in Uncanny X-Men #252–269. Banshee and Forge are searching for the missing team. Wolverine and Jubilee are getting out of Australia and trying to stay alive, with Psylocke eventually joining their small group. Storm, physically reduced to childhood and missing important memories, meets Gambit while living as a thief.
Those seven people do not spend this entire period working together. That distinction matters. There is no stable seven-person squad taking assignments from the same headquarters. The book moves between searches, rescues and unexpected partnerships, allowing different parts of the team’s history to pull the story forward.
The former Outback members also remain part of the wider story. Dazzler and Colossus emerge into altered lives, while Rogue’s separate return brings her back into conflict with the Carol Danvers presence. Their experiences should not be mistaken for participation in these particular rebuilding groups.
The posts here focus on the people creating those connections: an older X-Man returning to action, an inventor searching for answers, a wounded veteran depending on a teenager, and a displaced leader finding help from somebody outside the family.
By the end of this stretch, there are people who could become a team again. Getting them into the same place, with a shared purpose, is still another step. That is where the next era begins.
