Roberto and Warlock’s Fallen Angels adventure is a separate chapter, but returning from it does not place them back into an unchanged version of the school. By the time they return, the Bird-Brain crisis has cost Doug his life, and the surviving friends are struggling with the loss. Roberto’s strength remains one of the team’s obvious assets. His emotional reactions are just as visible. Pride, loyalty and anger can make him charge into a situation, and the people closest to him are often the ones who have to help him recognize when those feelings are taking over. The Gosamyr story gives that vulnerability a particularly uncomfortable form. Her influence heightens emotions and affects the relationships inside the group. Roberto’s attraction to her becomes tangled with his reactions to Sam and the others. The resulting conflicts should not be described as if everyone is making decisions in an entirely ordinary social situation. There is also a reason not to reduce him to whichever argument he is having. Roberto cares about his friends. His need to prove himself and his fear of hurting people exist alongside that care, rather than replacing it. During Inferno, he remains one of the students trying to reach Illyana and help the group survive. The familiar solar-powered appearance can suggest certainty, but the person using that strength has been through a series of experiences that give him very little reason to feel secure. This phase shows how difficult it can be to come back to a community after time away. Roberto still knows these people, and they still know him, but their shared history has acquired new grief and new tension. Being welcomed back does not mean everything resumes where it left off. He has to find his place in the team that actually exists now.
