Symptoms begin a day or two later. Some damage can be permanent. Nobody has established whether the entity truly understands people or simply imitates behavior that appeals to them. When nobody watches, it seems to retain its last shape. Its range of transformations also goes beyond ordinary human appearances. That leaves a pretty unsettling question about how much of the interaction actually belongs to the observer.
