Rahne Sinclair can turn into a wolf, but the harder transformation is learning to believe there is nothing shameful about being herself. Her upbringing has left her frightened of her own impulses. At Xavier's school she has friends, space to explore her abilities and people who don't automatically treat difference as evidence of something evil. That doesn't erase the old fear. It gives her other voices to hear when that fear returns. Dani is especially important. Their friendship has a practical expression in the psychic connection that lets them communicate when Rahne is in wolf form. It also makes the team feel intimate in a way a list of powers cannot. Someone can recognize Rahne and understand her even when she cannot speak with a human voice. The expanding roster tests that sense of belonging. Illyana brings actual sorcery and demons into a life already crowded with religious anxieties. Warlock looks unlike anything the students have encountered, yet his fear gives Rahne something she can understand. Her willingness to see a frightened person inside a strange shape matters when the group is deciding how to respond to him. Rahne's own body also becomes a source of danger in the Cloak and Dagger sequence. Alongside Roberto, she needs help escaping powers that have taken hold of her. The school's promise of safety gets tested by problems that cannot be solved through obedience or a better training score. She still contributes the senses and movement of a wolf, with all the usefulness that brings to a team in trouble. Just as important is the way she responds to vulnerable people. Her kindness is active. It can change how the rest of the class treats someone who desperately needs a chance.
