Electron is another member of the original force confronting the X-Men. He belongs to the same imperial ranks as the more prominent opponents around him, adding to the numbers the visitors have to overcome. That advantage matters as the battle wears on. The X-Men can win an exchange and still find somebody else waiting. Their opponents can keep them occupied while D'Ken pursues the power of the crystal. Electron is part of that surrounding force, one more defender of an emperor who has made the whole battlefield expendable.
