SCP-057: The Daily Grind SCP-057 gives you something to do for the rest of your life: keep moving. It's an underground stone chamber filled with sliding columns. When a living human enters, the door closes and the columns start rearranging themselves. Openings appear ahead while the space behind closes. Stop paying attention or become too exhausted to continue, and the chamber crushes you. Animals, machines, and corpses don't activate it. It appears interested in a specific kind of participant, and some people have survived inside for days. The experiment log makes that description much harder to sit with. A prisoner enters carrying a radio, then realizes he can't see the entrance anymore. The researchers keep assuring him that an exit is coming. One brings up parole. He understands that they're giving him encouragement rather than a way out. He cries, keeps moving, and struggles with the decision to stop. Afterward, nobody attempts to recover his remains. The room provides the threat, but those conversations give the story its cruelty. Somebody can hear him the entire time. Every reassuring answer buys the researchers another stretch of observation, while he has to take the next step. https://t.co/W79yYQr7yK
