Kitty goes into the trap dressed as Rachel, expecting to draw the Warwolves out. It is a brave plan with a serious flaw: her usual way of avoiding physical danger doesn't work against them the way she expects. They catch her, and she ends up inside their den instead of safely slipping away. The creature that tries to take her skin gets a result it isn't prepared for. Kitty's consciousness survives, helped by Rachel's efforts to hold on to her. Instead of producing a disguise the hunter can wear, the attack leaves Kitty influencing the creature itself. Its body starts changing, and the other Warwolves find the whole thing hilarious until those changes begin working against them. That reversal puts Kitty's resourcefulness at the center of the rescue without making the original danger disappear. She hasn't simply shrugged the attack off. Rachel is fighting to preserve her, the rest of the team is trying to reach her, and Kitty has to work out what she can do from inside something that meant to kill her. The captor's confusion also exposes how little the pack cares about its victims. The others are entertained by the mishap. A stolen appearance being damaged is cause for an argument. People's lives have become material for their petty disputes. By the end of Excalibur #2, Kitty has recovered and four captured Warwolves are confined at London Zoo. The final image lets them watch television, read, and behave like thoroughly unpleasant visitors on the wrong side of the glass. It's funny after a horrible ordeal. The television and newspaper don't soften what they did; they underline how comfortably these creatures can understand human life while treating actual humans as disposable.
