SCP-048: The Cursed SCP Number
Imagine working somewhere that contains impossible creatures for a living and still deciding one particular filing number is too much trouble.
That's SCP-048. Whatever gets assigned the number has a habit of being destroyed, stolen, lost, or otherwise removed from Foundation custody. The people assigned to it also have a much worse record of injuries, deaths, and disciplinary problems.
The Foundation doesn't actually prove the number is cursed. It retires the designation partly because everyone is so superstitious about it that keeping it around is hurting morale.
Naturally, a doctor decides he's going to prove everybody wrong. He restores the number. The newly assigned object gets thrown away, and the doctor loses his arms in a lunchroom blender accident.
Another supposed entry turns out to be a researcher accidentally putting his vampire-boat story into the archive. Even an empty slot can't escape somebody making a mess of it.
The deadpan paperwork makes this one. Nobody pauses to give the blender incident the explanation it very clearly deserves. The official response is essentially to close the file again and leave the number alone. Arguing about curses seems pointless by then.
