SCP-044: World War II Era Molecular-Fission Cannon Somebody at the Foundation put the Administrator's entire pickup truck into SCP-044 and fired it. Apparently, that counted as an experiment. SCP-044 is a massive German howitzer from the Second World War. It weighs 251 tonnes and needs two locomotives to move it. Instead of conventional shells, it can use whatever objects fit inside its muzzle. The gun turns that material into a glowing projectile that explodes on impact. More material means a bigger explosion, and leaving the load inside longer increases the yield. Researchers suspect something is weakening molecular and atomic bonds, but they haven't figured out the mechanism. Taking it apart doesn't sound especially promising either. Some components keep moving without power and seem to serve no purpose. People and equipment have disappeared while exploring the barrel. Then the file casually mentions a Bear Incident without explaining it. Considering the muzzle has to be covered to keep animals out, that omission invites some very unfortunate guesses. The cannon is classified Safe because following the procedures has made it manageable. A giant unexplained gun with missing personnel in its history is still a giant unexplained gun. https://t.co/oGDv1fVEab
