SCP-032: Brothers' Bride
SCP-032 turns up at a Foundation facility and asks to be kept there until someone comes for her. Her makers knew where to leave her.
From a distance, she resembles a woman. Up close, that resemblance falls apart. Her body is silicone and synthetic material filled with refined oil, yet she walks and talks. Nearby natural life suffers, while things shaped by humanity are treated differently by her effect.
Her interviews reveal what she says she's waiting for: a man already condemned to wander and destroy against his will. Nature offers him some comfort. Her creators intend to take that away too, using an imitation of his dead wife that will follow him and ruin what he still finds beautiful.
She insists she has no consciousness of her own. Then she talks about hating the woman she resembles, and hating herself for being such a poor imitation. The researcher questions whether those feelings fit an empty machine.
There is something especially nasty about designing a punishment that needs another suffering being to carry it out. Even her uncertainty about whether she counts as a person becomes part of the cruelty.
