6/9 Roulette can make an ordinary mistake arrive at exactly the wrong moment. Jennifer Stavros alters probability through psychic energy discs, giving a target good or bad luck. Her power suits a team fight particularly well. She does not need to hit harder than everyone else if she can make an opponent's next move go wrong. In the Hellions' opening encounter, she works with Thunderbird against Sunspot and Wolfsbane. The pairing puts a direct physical threat beside someone who can interfere with the odds. Fighting the stronger opponent first becomes a much less comfortable plan when Roulette is still free to act. Her gambling theme also gives the team a recognizable visual language beyond its matching uniforms. Tarot draws cards; Roulette throws out changes in fortune. Their powers invite an opponent to worry about what might happen next. There is a useful distinction between what she does and Tarot's cards. Tarot puts a threat where everyone can see it. Roulette interferes with whether something works out. Once she is involved, an opponent has to consider that a bad break may be an attack rather than an accident. That is particularly awkward for young mutants who are still practicing their control. They already have reasons to doubt their timing and judgment. Adding deliberately altered luck makes it harder to tell whether they need to improve a move or stop Jennifer from affecting it. Her contribution can remain important even when the biggest action on the page belongs to someone else. Roulette makes that uncertainty part of the fight. A strong opening, good positioning and a sensible plan can all look less reliable once she starts putting her own thumb on the scale.
