3/6 · Destiny · Precognitive adviser Destiny gives Mystique's Brotherhood an advantage that neither muscle nor fire can provide: warning of what is about to happen. Her precognition can turn an opponent's next move into information the team can use before the blow arrives. It also makes the interference in Days of Future Past especially troubling. She senses a variable she cannot account for. The older Kate Pryde's presence in her younger body has changed the situation, and Destiny cannot simply hand Mystique a reliable sequence of events to follow. She remains an active part of the assassination attempt, eventually aiming a crossbow at Kelly. For all the powers being thrown around the building, the decisive danger comes down to a weapon pointed at one man. Kate disrupts the shot. Destiny is one of my favorite characters. I love reading about her, and it was a real shame when she died later in the story. I've always been a big fan of characters who can tell the future, but hers feels unique because of how she handles her powers. The fact that she's blind on top of that is such a striking part of the character. She's amazing. Her first appearance already gives her more to do than stand beside Mystique making predictions. She is helping teammates react and looking for her own chance to finish the mission. The uncertainty in her visions becomes something she has to work around while the fight is still moving. Destiny's role keeps the fight uncertain even when the X-Men seem to be recovering. Winning individual exchanges means little if someone else already knows where the target will be. The heroes need to stop the person watching for an opening as well as the people creating it.
