Dragonfly Dragonfly is the newcomer in Nefaria's Ani-Men. Veronica Dultry makes her debut in X-Men #94, joining the four animal-themed criminals with an insect-like appearance and wings of her own. Her abilities give the group more than another flying attacker. She can exert a hypnotic influence, which fits an operation already full of people being manipulated and used. The troops inside the base are not simply free to make their own choices about what is happening around them. Storm is her opposite number in the main team fight. It is an early outing for Ororo, when the book is still showing how her weather powers work alongside the other new recruits. Dragonfly gives her an airborne enemy within a much larger emergency. She also broadens the group's appearance. An ape, a cat, a frog and a bird already cover very different physical threats, and Dragonfly adds an insect form with flight and a power aimed at the mind. The animal names tell you something about how these opponents move, but not everything about what they can do. Nefaria's first address to them is revealing. Even after their success, he reminds them that he holds the prospect of restoring their humanity. Dragonfly may be new to the lineup, but she is placed under the same arrangement as the men. The group has just won him a military base, and he immediately makes sure they remember their dependence on him. The five Ani-Men can blur together if they are remembered only as the villains from Thunderbird's final mission. Dragonfly deserves her own place in the lineup. She is introduced here, has a different set of abilities from the four men and was never part of the original Daredevil-era quartet.
