Cat-Man Cat-Man is Townshend Horgan, another member carried over from the Ani-Men's earlier criminal jobs. Under Nefaria, the feline appearance comes with actual claws and a more animal-like body. Putting him opposite Wolverine gives the fight an obvious edge. Cat-Man even taunts Logan about his metal claws while boasting about his own. He gets the upper hand long enough to make that encounter dangerous, rather than just serving as a target for Wolverine to carve through. Colossus steps in before Horgan can finish the attack. That rescue says something about how new this X-Men lineup still is. Wolverine is abrasive, and the others have not spent years building trust with him, but Piotr does not hesitate when a teammate needs help. He is not entirely oblivious to the situation Nefaria has put them in. After the Ani-Men take the war room, Horgan questions how five attackers are supposed to hold off an entire military installation. Nefaria's answer is to gas the rest of the base. Cat-Man supplies a sensible logistical objection inside an otherwise extravagant takeover. That makes his later aggression toward Wolverine a little more specific. He can recognize overwhelming numbers when considering the whole base, yet still become consumed by proving himself against the opponent directly in front of him. Piotr interrupts that moment before Horgan can turn an advantage into a killing blow. Cat-Man's part in this story is a close-range fight, not a sprawling personal saga. He gets in, hurts somebody and presses his advantage. The X-Men survive it because another member is willing to interrupt the contest instead of leaving Logan to prove he can handle it alone.
