9. Lorelei Lorelei enters in X-Men #63, after the first seven Mutates have already been introduced. Magneto presents her as another result of his machinery and uses her voice against the intruders. Her song puts the men under her influence, leaving Marvel Girl able to act. Jean's resistance becomes the decisive opening in the confrontation. The threat that stops much of the group does not affect her in the same way. Lorelei's debut is brief, but her role is substantial. She changes the balance of the final encounter without needing to overpower each opponent physically. The effect of her voice makes the other characters' ability to make decisions part of the danger. Lorelei belongs to this original two-issue group, but she arrives in #63 rather than alongside the first seven in #62.
