Quicksilver Quicksilver’s superhuman speed gives the Brotherhood a fighter who can respond almost instantly, but his first appearance also establishes where his attention goes first: Wanda. When Mastermind threatens his sister during their meal, Pietro intervenes. His allegiance to Magneto is bound up with the rescue of Wanda and with remaining beside her, giving him a personal reason to stay even as he questions the group. During the palace fight, his speed brings him into direct conflict with Angel and Cyclops. He can pursue a flying opponent through the building and seize Cyclops from behind, disrupting the direction of an optic blast. Those encounters make his movement a tactical problem for the X-Men, who are learning about these new opponents while already under attack. His most consequential action comes during the Brotherhood’s escape. Magneto has left a nuclear bomb behind, and Pietro races back to disarm it because innocent people would be killed. He still leaves with the Brotherhood and maintains his hostility toward the X-Men. The ending gives his loyalty a clear limit: whatever he owes Magneto, he refuses to let that debt make him an accomplice to the destruction of Santo Marco.
