Callisto Callisto introduces herself as the Morlocks’ leader in Uncanny X-Men #169, with the kidnapped Angel displayed beside her. She intends to make him her consort, and she treats his beauty as something she is entitled to possess. Her authority turns that desire into a danger for everyone who attempts to intervene. Her mutant abilities include heightened senses, demonstrated when she detects Kitty Pryde by scent despite Kitty’s quiet approach. She also watches the X-Men fight before committing her people, wanting to learn what the intruders can do. The introduction establishes an alert and calculating opponent. Callisto can act decisively herself. During the fighting, she strikes Storm with a sling, disrupting the concentration Ororo needs to remain aloft. In #170, she explains the sanctuary the Morlocks have built, yet refuses to let the X-Men leave even when Kitty urgently needs help.
