DON

DON Don is Gomi's blue lobster companion. His place among the Fallen Angels becomes painfully clear when Devil Dinosaur accidentally crushes him in #5. An unlikely household suddenly has to respond to a death within it. The following issue stays with the consequences. Gomi grieves, Bill reacts angrily, and the other Angels differ in how much understanding they offer. The accident exposes a gap between living alongside somebody's attachments and recognizing their importance. Don's death also changes the meaning of the group's physical differences. A giant dinosaur and a small lobster can share an adventure, but proximity brings risks that nobody has adequately considered. The consequences don't disappear because the event was unintentional. Giving Don a separate post preserves that place in the story. His absence matters to specific people, and their responses become part of the ensemble's history. The series asks its characters to face a loss that some of them would find easier to dismiss. Issue anchors: #5–6.
