PHOENIX: RACHEL SUMMERS BRINGS HER OWN HISTORY The Phoenix in this lineup is Rachel Summers. She's the daughter of Scott and Jean from an alternate future, and her history includes the persecution and forced service associated with the Hounds. By the time Excalibur forms, she's also escaping Mojo's control. Her arrival and the pursuit that follows bring this particular group together. She has telepathy and telekinesis, along with her connection to the Phoenix. Those abilities make her immensely important in a fight, but the circumstances of her arrival matter just as much to the launch story. She's someone who needs help, and the others decide to stand with her. That gives Rachel a place with people who have reasons to understand displacement and loss, even when their experiences are very different from hers. I'm keeping her name and era clear because Phoenix can mean different people and different periods across these books. This entry belongs to Rachel at Excalibur's beginning.
