SHADOWCAT: KITTY PRYDE HAS ALREADY BEEN THROUGH A LOT Kitty is still young when Excalibur begins, but she has already been an X-Man through some very serious experiences. She arrives with training, relationships and losses that matter to the person she is now. The Mutant Massacre also left her with problems controlling her physical state. Phasing is part of her survival and recovery in this period, as well as the ability that lets her get through barriers and interfere with machinery. Her friendship with Kurt is one of the starting connections in this team. They're both trying to deal with believing their friends are dead. Helping Rachel brings someone else from that old life back into reach. Kitty can be practical and sharp with the people around her. She's willing to challenge what someone is doing, including a friend who has decided to push himself too far. For this thread, that experience matters. This is the Kitty who helps establish Excalibur after years with the X-Men, rather than a new student arriving at Xavier's school for the first time.
