NIGHTCRAWLER: KURT IS STILL RECOVERING

NIGHTCRAWLER: KURT IS STILL RECOVERING The Sword Is Drawn gives Kurt a scene that says a lot about where he is at this point. He's practicing against robots with swords, getting into the whole swashbuckling performance. Then he's injured, teleports instinctively and ends up weakened. Kitty has to shut the exercise down. He wants to know what he can still do. He's also pushing himself too hard after being hospitalized. That is the Nightcrawler arriving in Excalibur. The acrobat, the swordsman and the sense of humor are still there, but his recovery is part of the story. You can't just carry his abilities over from another period and assume there are no limits or consequences here. His long friendship with Kitty gives the new group a relationship that already has years behind it. They can help each other, argue and call each other out without needing to establish that trust from scratch. As the team starts taking shape, Kurt has a chance to build something with familiar friends and new teammates while working out what comes after the X-Men's apparent deaths.
