X-TEAM SPOTLIGHT: THE ORIGINAL X-FACTOR

X-TEAM SPOTLIGHT: THE ORIGINAL X-FACTOR The original five X-Men came back together in X-Factor in 1986. Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel and Iceman. Same people who started it all, with a lot of history between them by this point. The premise takes a little explaining. They advertised themselves as mutant hunters. Someone would report a mutant, X-Factor would arrive, and behind the scenes they would help that person instead. The idea was to reach frightened young mutants before somebody else got to them. You can also see the problem with advertising a service around people's fear of mutants. The team is trying to protect people while publicly presenting mutants as something that needs to be dealt with. Jean's return makes the reunion possible, but everybody has a life outside the team now. Getting the five of them in a room doesn't make those complications disappear. This thread is about the launch lineup in X-Factor #1 and the opening issues. The first issue was written by Bob Layton with art by Butch Guice. I'll cover their later changes separately as we work through the eras.
