Post 6 of 7 DANI MOONSTAR: PSYCHE Dani Moonstar arrives with strong ideas about what she will and will not surrender. In Marvel Graphic Novel #4 (1982), the young Cheyenne mutant can draw out frightening images from people’s minds. Her psychic connection with animals gives her another way to communicate, including with Rahne in wolf form. Those abilities place her close to feelings that people usually keep private. A fear can become visible to everyone nearby, and Dani does not yet have reliable control over when that happens. Training therefore carries a personal urgency: she needs room to understand her own mind and the effect she can have on someone else’s. The quieter scene that defines her place in the class comes with the uniforms. Dani adds her own boots and belts, insisting that her Cheyenne identity and individuality belong at the school with her. Xavier accepts her choice. Dani is willing to join the class, but she expects to remain recognizable as herself. Xavier could turn the uniform into a test of obedience. Instead, he makes room for what she has asked. Dani makes that conversation happen immediately. Even as a new pupil, she expects the person teaching her to listen. Her presence gives the class someone willing to question how the school works while she is still deciding what it can mean to her.
