Marvel Girl / Jean Grey
Jean Grey walks into X-Men #1 with questions. She's been told to keep the school private, but she still needs Xavier to explain what she's joining. She's asking the questions as we meet the team alongside her.
Her demonstrated power here is telekinesis. She can move things with her mind, and she introduces it with a chair and a book. Small objects make the ability easy to follow. Distance and physical contact work differently for her, and the boys have to adjust their assumptions about what she can do.
They also spend a lot of her introduction staring at her and competing for her attention. The writing repeatedly frames her through their interest, while Jean is trying to learn about the school and establish herself in it. She has her own reasons for being there.
She's wearing the original yellow-and-blue uniform with a hood, and she's ready to use her abilities openly. She says she enjoys finally getting that chance. Her questions about the school continue after the introductions: she wants to know what the X-Men are actually supposed to do. Xavier has recruited someone who expects an explanation.
Issue: X-Men #1 (1963).
