SCP-006: Fountain of Youth
SCP-006 is a small spring near Astrakhan, Russia, hidden behind a chemical factory. Its water looks chemically ordinary, but drinking it improves DNA repair, cell replication, tissue healing and immune function. Higher primates benefit too, although many birds and reptiles are unaffected.
The Foundation classifies it as Safe. Most of the elaborate handling procedures are there to keep people from finding out what it does, including the people working with it.
Workers wear protective suits and get false briefings. If somebody touches the water, they’re told there’s a toxic hazard and ordered to evacuate. Taking samples requires three O5 approvals and armed transport.
Anyone exposed is confined, studied and then killed. Incineration is recommended because of the water’s effects.
That’s the part of this one that stands out to me. Somebody could follow every instruction they’re given, cooperate with the evacuation and confinement, and still have no idea what the Foundation intends to do to them. They aren’t even allowed to know what they were handling.
Despite the name, the article doesn’t establish how long the benefits last or prove that someone could live forever. It also doesn’t confirm that the O5 Council drinks the water. Those are easy conclusions to jump to, but the actual file leaves them unanswered.
