6/11 • Testament of Isaac
Isaac prepares for death, worries about Jacob, and receives reassurance about what lies ahead. This Coptic Christian version of the patriarch's final days brings family affection together with angels, prayer, and hopes for the afterlife. Its original composition date is uncertain. Spirit Nation has Stephen Gaselee's 1927 English translation, preserving the gaps and abrupt transitions in the source. It is a short way into the wider tradition of stories about the deaths of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
